What Biden Has Accomplished?

 

• The American Rescue Plan
  A response to Covid-19, which allowed people to stay home and not spread the disease.
• The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill
  Paid for infrastructure repair, electric vehicle investment, power generation, and clean drinking water.
• The most diverse administration in US history 
  At the beginning of his administration, Biden's cabinet was 55% nonwhite and 45% female.  Trump's had been 82% white and 82% male.  Moreover, rather than being affirmative action, Biden's administration had more government experience than any other administration in the last 15 years. 
  
• The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
  Incentives for states to pass red-flag laws, allowing people to petition courts to remove weapons from dangerous people. Expanded background checks.
• The CHIPS Act
  Investment in semiconductor manufacture, for US firms to compete globally and prevent dependence on Chinese semiconductors.
• The Inflation Reduction Act (formerly Build Back Better)
  Massive investment in reducing greenhouse emissions and promote lean energy. New revenue through a corporate tax increase. Funding for the IRS. Cap for out-of-pocked prescription drugs.
• Support for Ukraine
  Weapons and intelligence to help Ukraine defend against the Russian invasion. Used US intelligence to repeatedly expose Russian attempts at false-flag and misinformation attacks.
• Exit from Afghanistan
  Although it played out tragically, he did what no other president before him could do: Get us out of Afghanistan.
• The appointment of judges
  Trump managed to make a record number of appointments of judges, over 200 by the end of his term.  As of February of 2023 Biden had appointed more than 100, more than Trump had by the same point in his presidency.
  
• Student Loans
  Biden used executive power to forgive some student loan debt, which was then blocked in court.  In response, Biden created generous terms for student loan repayment; and he issued stiff penalties for loan servicers that tried to push borrowers off of income-based repayment.  
• Strengthened Alliances
  He secured a deal with Australia to build nuclear submarines that serve as a protection for our allies, and a bulwark against further Chinese expansion.  He has diplomatically helped Israel as it conducts a counter-offensive against Hamas, and supplied weapons and naval support.  Our allies greater confidence in the willingness and ability of America to stand with them, than under Trump.  
• The Auto Strike  
  Biden promised to be the most pro-union president and he has been.  He stood on the picket line with the UAW during their strike, which has since gone on to win a large deal with The Big Three.
• The Rail Strike
  Railroad workers threatened to strike, and Biden signed a bill to block the strike.  Although the bill guaranteed an immediate increase in pay, it was rejected by the workers who further demanded sick days.  Although unions initially were angered by this move, Biden has since quietly also negotiated sick days as part of workers' contracts for two railroad unions.  So although the victory was behind the scenes, Biden helped to secure this victory for the workers. 
  
• Appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson
  Appointed a liberal Supreme Court justice who has spoken in more oral arguments than any other justice since she joined the bench.  She has also written several dissenting opinions, and distinguishes herself by emphasizing the importance of historical context in ways that the court has traditionally not emphasized.  
• Stopped Arctic Drilling
  He cancelled all seven oil and gas leases in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge.  (Note that this is independent of the controversial Willow project.  Also note that the Willow project began with the Trump administration's approval.)
  
• Not Trump
  Biden is unlike Trump in just about every way imaginable.  Biden is competent, dignified, effective, and does not exhaust us with constant scandals and undermining our democracy.  A major part of Biden's promise for his presidency was to not be like Trump and on that, he has delivered.
